Enhanced ShopSite Search in Version 9.0

One of the new features in version 9 is improved shopper search. Based upon merchant feedback the following improvements have been made:

  • Search on Exact Matches (Pro, Manager)
Shoppers can now search for exact phrase matches in the store search.
  • Search Results Sorting (Pro, Manager)
Merchants can now allow customers to change the sort order of search results, to display products according to relevancy score, price, or product name.
  • Search Relevancy (Pro, Manager)
Store Search results are now based on a relevancy score, using word frequency and merchant-specified relevancy ranking.
  • Search Logging (Pro, Manager)
ShopSite now logs the customer store search terms and the number of results returned. This makes it easy for merchants to know what customers are looking for, and whether or not they are finding it.
  • Search Box Size (Pro, Manager)
Merchants can now specify the size of the Search term input field in the store search form.
  • Search Template Tags (Pro, Manager)
New Custom Template Tags have been created to allow designers to customize the look of the new search features on the Search Results screens.

Merchant Tip

Q: How can I offer quantity based discounts when ordering multiple items within ShopSite?

A: Quantity based discounts for groups of products is a feature that has been added in ShopSite Pro version 9.0. Merchants can use Quantity Pricing Groups to offer quantity discounts on combinations of similar products. When a customer purchases several products in the same group, the quantity of each qualifying product in the cart is added together to create the number used to calculate the discount for each of those products. To use this feature you would first go to Merchandising > Discounts > Quantity Discounts, and create the group names you would like. Next you would go to Products > Edit Product Info, and setup the price breaks per product and assign each product to the group you would like them to be a part of.

The "Support Queue"

Q: I have gotten errors when integrating with Google Product Search, are there any patches to fix issues with Google Base/Froogle data feeds?

A: We have released a patch for ShopSite 9.0.3.x that addresses recent Google changes affecting the Google Base/Froogle data feed using the FTP connection method. Merchants should contact their reseller/hosting provider to have them apply the patches to v9.0.3.x. More information on the patch can be found here:

Designer Template Tips

Q: How do I display the per product cross sell items on the product more information pages?

A: There are two areas of your custom product template that you would need to edit/add to in order to include the cross sell items on the more information page. First you would need to add a DEFINE PRODUCT_CROSS_SELL section to your product template. In the product templates before version 9.0 there were only 3 sections, DEFINE SUBPRODUCT, DEFINE PRODUCT and DEFINE MORE_INFO_PAGE. You are now adding a fourth section to your template to define how you would like the cross sell products to appear. You would setup this section in the same fashion as you setup the subproduct or product section.

The second part to adding the cross sell products on your more information pages is to include the LOOP tags for the cross sell products in your DEFINE MORE_INFO_PAGE section where you would like your cross sell products to appear. you would setup the cross sell product loop the same way you setup the subproduct loop.

Q: Where can I find additional examples of how to setup custom templates?

A: ShopSite has now created a custom template cookbook. The cookbook has examples to walk you through the basics of how to setup different templates including the page, product, search, cart, gift certificate and tell a friend templates. There is also an advanced Tip section where you can view 'how to' instructions on how to use templates to further enhance your online store.
