Customize the Crop Circles Template - Add Your Own Links to the Left Navigation Bar

The Crop Circles Theme creates a layout where you have links on the top, and left sides of the page. The links that appear on the left use the Page Link feature built within ShopSite. You can add links to the left navigation by linking pages to each other in your store.

If you would like add you own links that are not ShopSite pages, you would need to modify the Crop Circles template itself. Below are the steps that you would go through in order to modify the Crop Circles templates to show your custom left navigation bar.

1.   Copy the Crop Circles templates. Below are a list of files and templates that you would need to copy in your store.

2.   Locate the DIV section with id="leftlinks". Within all of these templates and template files locate the DIV section named “leftlinks.” Note, the "leftlinks" section will look slightly different in each template. Only the page and product more information page templates will have the tell a friend tags. Only the page template will have the LOOP LINKS tags. The “leftlinks” section for the page template will look like the code below:

NOTE: This is the page template "leftlinks" section, and it has additional IF/END_IF tags. In the next step you will see how you will change this section. These additional IF/END_IF tags are not in the other templates.

3.   Add your own links using the format below. Note that the Tell a Friend feature only appears on the page and more information page templates. If you choose to leave the tell a friend feature in, then you will only leave it in on the page and more information page templates. Take that line of code out for the other templates.

Below the example shows the looped links (only included in the page template) as well as your own additional links. Add the line of code shown below, and replace the URL with the full URL to the page you want to link to, and replace "Page Name" with the text you would like displayed for the link.

Your final code should look similar to the following. Note, you are replacing the entire section shown in step 2, with the code shown below.

4.   Copy YOUR copy and name it the EXACT same as the original. Once you have finished making modifications, you can copy your copied template and give it the exact same name as the original. If you do this, your new template will override the original template. Once your file name overrides the original, you can use the crop circles theme and it will read your new files and display your new links.
